Flora, a Mayan girl in Mexico, can see the future in her dreams; but always the future of others, never her own.  As she grows up, she becomes obsessed with seeing her own future, an urge that only gets stronger when she becomes pregnant with twins.

Finally, she sees something in a dream, and awakes with the conviction that one of the twins in her womb will betray her and take everything away from her.

She gives birth to a girl, Sara, and a boy, who she becomes convinced will be the one who will betray her.  She names him Judas.

The children grow up together and are very close to one another, but then Judas starts exhibiting the same gift as Flora, and this causes Sara and Judas to be separated from each other.  Judas is taken to Belize, never to see Sara or Flora again.

Years later, after a tragedy and a terrifying vision, Judas goes back to Mexico for Sara, fearing for her life.  Sara has lived a normal life in the Yucatan, and after almost two decades away from Judas, she doesn't know how much the years have changed him into a corrupt and evil man, until she's suddenly plunged into his world, where fate and violence preside.

For Judas, Sara is the only being he has ever loved, a reminder of the life that could have been.  His quest to protect his sister becomes a search for personal discovery and redemption encumbered by the consequences of his life and actions.

And then there's Flora, who has feared Judas' return, and is horrified that her long ago vision will finally come to pass...
